6/5/2011: It's a beautiful ride - Ryan McKeel

Life ain't always beautiful, but it's a beautiful ride.

-Gary Allan

Chad and guests observe two 30-year annuversaries on tonight's show: one happy, one somber
Cheryl Sullivan, Greater Phoenix Swing Dance Convention tells of the 30th anniversary of the Greater Phoenix Swing Dance convention, held June 29th to July 3rd, at the Arizona Biltmore
On a more somber note, Ryan McKeel,  of the San Francisco Aids Foundation, reminds us of the 30th anniversary of the first reported case of AIDS. July 5 marks the start of   a 7-day, 600 mile, bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, previously called the California Aids Rides and now called the Aids Life Cycle. This event , with over 2300 riders has already raised over $13 million. It is a deeply moving event for the riders, who bicycle approximately 78 miles per day, and train for 4 to 5 months before the event. Some AIDS education tips:
  • if sexually active you are at risk of AIDS
  • know your status & get tested regularly (the sooner into treatment and care the better you off you will be)
  • there are increasing hopes for a cure and the people that get into  treatment early will be the most likely saved
  • other websites that can help:  www.sfaf.org, San Francisco Aids Organization;  www.hivtest.org to find nearest site for AIDS testing, www.greaterthanaids.com an AIDS site aimed at African Americans, the Centers for Disease Control - www.cdcinfo.gov
